On mother and motherhood..

"Mother" seems like a grown-up word now that I type it and see it in front of my eyes. They say having a child gives you a sense of fulfilment. I dont know if I feel that yet. I know it sounds silly. The nine and half months of pregnancy seem like a distant memory and I really don't remember how I felt then. And now that my child is a separate entity, I think that having her around makes me feel secure. I know, thats a lot of burden for a person who does not weigh 5 kgs yet and is amused by her own hands.

I know it does not make sense, but let me give an example. Remember your first trip abroad that you planned for a long time and looked forward to. The anticipation and the excitment in preparing for the trip! And then the actual date for travel arrives. I felt a little sad because now that the trip has started, it also means that the excitement of the first trip to the airport, the first immigration clearance etc will be over. You will never feel the same excitement again. No matter how many more trips you make..

Its like that. Now that I have gone through the birth process, I feel that its "been there, dont that". Silly I know..Call it post-partum thinking, not depression. Too much time to think :)

On a different note, when is the right time to remove the training wheels. Is it at 18, 30, 60 or never?

Updates...again..

A lot has happened in the past couple of months. And to think of it, I have not really *done* much. Its feeding, diapers, naps, bathtime and again feeding and the cycle continues. Its amazing how busy you are with a child and I am still at my mom's place and I dont even have to lift a finger for other housework.

Avanee is getting bigger and heavier (ask my poor back). She likes to be rocked to sleep and gets cranky in the evenings unless we take her out for a ride in the car. She still has not found her thumb to suck and so she puts her entire fist in her mouth and then when it slips out, she cries in frustration. She refuses to turn on her side, forget flipping over, but loves to raise her neck as if she wants to sit up!

She loves having people around her and is at her best behavior with strangers. She gives the cutest smiles to anyone who smiles at her and attracts a lot of attention in her little car seat. (car seats are still a novelty here! )

More on Avanee later..
