What do you do when someone you know and respect is doing something very wrong...

If its a person whom you know well, you know is fair and caring and yet is doing something that is totally wrong andis not going to do any good. Is it acceptable to step beyond the boundaries of friendship because you care and want to help. Is it okay to point out that it is a big mistake? Or should the limits of friendship be kept to friendship and not personal life...
